Is music kind of a big deal to you?
Awesome question! Music is so important to me and has aided as a soundtrack to the most important and memorable moments in my life. Hearing just the right song at the right time (or at the wrong time) is so memorable and can stay with you forever. That’s why I feel it’s so important to make sure others have their favorite songs soundtrack their lives on their special days.
I love talking music and playing music as well. I try to head to the local record shops (Delta Breeze, Kicksville, Medium Rare, Amoeba (Berkeley)) to get a conversation going about new & old groups alike to expand my knowledge and exposure of music.
One of the most amazing parts of DJing for people is talking and learning about what music really moves people and is special to them, and I learn about new music at every event. It’s awesome.
What are some of your favorite bands or musicians for different situations and activities you do?
Dancing: LCD Soundsystem, Marvin Gaye, Major Lazer, Lil Jon, Flo Rida, 90’s Hip Hop, Pitbull, Hall & Oates, Daft Punk, Lizzo, Tropkillaz, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Usher, & Earth Wind and Fire.
Cooking: Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Leon Bridges, Otis, Fleetwood Mac, King Floyd, Ambrosia, Hall & Oates, Decemberists, Loggins (sometimes Messina), Spoon, Mariah Carey, Bonnie Raitt, Vampire Weekend, & Brendan Benson.
Dinner Party: Jose Gonzalez, Gotan Project, Laura Veirs, Jose Gonzalez, Sarah Harmer, Andrew Bird, Miles Davis, Yacht Rock, Kings of Convenience, Noah & the Whale, Horace Silver, Herbie Mann, & Ray Charles.
Bar-B-Qing: Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats, Amy Winehouse, Alabama Shakes, B0rns, Creedence, Electric Light Orchestra, Joe Walsh, James Taylor, Leon Russell, Tom Petty, Eric Church, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, & The Eagles.
Driving at Night: Electric Light Orchestra, Morning Benders, Alt-J, Beastie Boys, On An On, Kings of Leon, Tame Impala, Kanye West, Band of Horses, All-American Rejects, Birds & Batteries, & Cherub.
Having Drinks with Friends & Family: Drake, Starship, Hall & Oates, Dej Loaf, LCD Soundsystem, Spoon, Band of Horses, Kanye West, Alt-J, Sam Cooke, Nickelback (for real), SWV, TLC, Electric Light Orchestra, and tons more.
What equipment do you bring to weddings & events?
I bring two Technics SL-1200MK5 turntables, Allen & Heath mixer, my MacBook Pro and Pioneer DJ Controller using Serato, my iPad with thousands of digital songs and the Spotify music program (with a subscription which works amazing for requests), two 15″ Yamaha speakers, four other remote Yamaha speakers, 150 Records, 6 wireless Shure BLX microphones (3 handheld, 3 lapel), a Crown amp, and 6 channel mixer to control the volume of everything.
I also have two separate setups, complete with wireless microphones and music if you would like to have the ceremony in another location than the reception.
Do you bring the same records to every event?
I do have lots of great records I bring to every event, but I also peruse my entire collection and bring event-specific records after I talk with my clients to make sure they get a unique-to-them crate of artists and vibe they love.
Do you have lights for events?
I do! I recently upgraded to a Chauvet Gigbar2. The lights add a lot to the dance floor and come standard with my services.

How much do you charge?

I have a range of pricing that is determined by how many setups and locations are needed, whether or not I am providing microphones and music for the ceremony, how long the event is, and how far the event is away from Sacramento. For locations over two hours away I might add a bit for lodging.

Overall, if you have any questions about pricing please send me an inquiry email and I will get back to you immediately!

Why do you like to meet up with clients before agreeing on an event?
I am lucky enough to spend some time with clients on one of the most amazing and special days of their lives. I feel more comfortable getting to know them to make sure everything runs smoothly and I get to know them as people, not just a client. I love meeting up at Temple Coffee in Midtown Sac, or sometimes The Shack in East Sac to grab a beer and talk wedding, event, or music details. It’s one of the best parts of what I do.
What are some concerts you have seen recently?
So many great ones for sure! Just recently went to Red Rocks in Colorado to see Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night sweats for two shows! Unreal!
But others lately have been the Raconteurs, Jonathan Wilson, Kikagaku Moyo, Durand Jones and the Indications, Fleet Foxes, Bonnie Raitt, Weird Al Yankovic, Spoon, Iron and Wine, and so many more. I absolutely love Harlows and try to go there as often as possible. Ace of Spades and G1 are cool too!
Do you have a dog?
I do! His name is MacGruber and he is the dopest dog in the world! You will probably meet him if we FaceTime.
Do you enjoy talking about music?
Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah baby! That is how I learn about new artists and groups to try and see live. Feel free to call or email so we can talk music.
If you have any more questions feel free to email or call and I will try to answer them asap.
